The People's March in Washington, D.C., was organized by a coalition of progressive groups to protest for causes they believe are under threat by the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump.
Demonstrators assembled at three separate locations in downtown Washington, D.C., before converging and marching approximately 1.5 miles to the Lincoln Memorial. Arriving at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, demonstrators held a rally and "People's Fair."
The march was held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025; two days later, Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States.
The day before his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump held a "victory rally" at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 19, 2025.
Thousands of Trump supporters trudged through icy rain and endured freezing temperatures for hours to enter the arena and join in the revelry.
Despite the weather, spirits were high and music was blasting as people poured into the arena. Featuring musical appearances, speakers and culminating with an appearance by Trump himself, supporters cheered and celebrated into the evening.
On Jan. 20, 2025, in the United States Capitol Rotunda, Donald Trump took the oath of office to be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. Two and a half miles away, hundreds of people rallied to swear a different oath.
At the historic Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., Rev. Al Sharpton led supporters in a pledge to support diversity, equity and inclusion.
The energy of the group was electric, and as the voices of the church choir filled the air, people sang and danced with one another. Sharpton emerged to thunderous applause, and the cries of his supporters echoed through the church as he condemned statements by Trump about his policy agenda.
